Quantum of Solace

'Quantum of Solace' continues the high octane adventures of James Bond from 'Casino Royale'. Picking up literally days where the previous film left off, after being betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Having captured Mr. White, and in pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and 'M' interrogate Mr. White who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper to steal Bond's casino winnings is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined

Max Payne

Max Payne is coming to the big screen. According to today's Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox is hooking up with Collision Entertainment to make a film based on the gritty third-person shooter which was released back in 2001. The story, as THR reminds us, centers around a New York cop, Max Payne, whose wife and baby are murdered by criminals high on a new drug called Valkyr. Without much left to live for, Payne joins the DEA and goes undercover with the mob to discover the source of the drug. Framed by the murder of his partner, Max is hunted down by both the mob and the cops in his one-man war on crime.

Madagascar 2

Reuniting the all-star comedy lineup from the first film, Madagscar: Escape 2 Africa picks up right where that one left off, with best friends Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer), and Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) plotting their return to the Central Park Zoo after being stranded in the titular island nation. After a disastrous plane ride -- courtesy of some militarily inclined penguins -- they instead end up at an African wildlife reserve, where Alex has an unexpected reunion with the parents he was separated from as a cub. This storyline, in which Alex attempts to win the acceptance of his alpha-lion Dad, is so tired that not even a go-for-broke Alec Baldwin, as the scheming bad guy, can salvage it.

Twiligh

Did the real-life Edward Cullen, 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson, get carried away while kissing the movie's heroine Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart? OK! says that's true! The film's director, Catherine Hardwicke, told OK!, "In one of the kissing scenes, Rob got a little passionate and fell off the bed."

Another secret OK! divulges is how Pattinson keeps his spiky hair standing at every angle. "You just don't wash it," he told the magazine!

And, just like the vampires they portrayed, some cast members feared cloudy days. "On 'Twilight,' we needed [an] overcast [sky] as a backdrop, so we prayed for cloudy days," Peter Facinelli, who plays Cullen dad Carlisle, said. "Sunny days held up shooting."

To hear the rest of the 10 Things You Must Know about 'Twilight,' pick up OK!'s November 17 issue, on newsstands now. And this year's most highly anticipated vampire love story hits theaters on November 21

Thriller

One of cinema's largest, all-encompassing genres, this type features films whose main ingredient is suspense, excitement and tension. These include such genres as mystery, detective movies, gangster movies, crime, spy films, science fiction, film noir, occult and haunted house horror movies. An atmosphere of creeping menace and sudden outbursts of violence, crime, and murder characterize these films; the withholding of crucial information from the viewer is also an important device, as are action setpieces such as gunfights and chases. Thrillers often present a vision of the world and society as dark, corrupt and dangerous, but in Hollywood they usually feature upbeat endings in which evil is overcome and the status quo is restored, often with lingering side effects. Many early examples of these films come from gangster dramas and detective films such as Scarface, Public Enemy and The Maltese Falcon. In the ‘40s and ‘50s, film noir controlled the thriller, painting an increasingly pessimistic, sinister view of life. Characters trapped by fate and downbeat endings were common, and moody, gloomy visual atmospheres were the key elements. After World War II, thrillers became increasingly more menacing (with films by directors like Nicolas Ray, Samuel Fuller, Alfred Hitchcock, Don Siegel, and international filmmakers like Jean-Pierre Melville, Henri-Georges Clouzot and Akira Kurosawa), but the gory, explicit violence and overt sexuality that define much of the genre today didn't arrive until after the Hayes Code was abolished in 1969. Since then the genre has been stretched with films by various directors who each continue to twist and expand thrillers into new areas. These include filmmakers like Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver, Goodfellas), Brian De Palma (Dressed to Kill, Scarface), David Cronenberg (Videodrome, Dead Zone), Michael Mann (Thief, Heat), Neil Jordan (The Crying Game), David Mamet (House of Games, Homicide), Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Someone to Watch Over Me), Roman Polanski (Chinatown, The Tenant) and Steven Soderbergh (The Underneath, Out of Sight), to name just a handful.
